Ho Ho Ho

And so there it was.

Australia lose.

South Africa win by six wickets.

The second highest run chase in history.

Ponting et al were left stunned. He said "another very flat batting wicket," which gave a "certain advantage batting second." Come, come Ricky, be a good sport, won't you?

Graeme Smith et al were overjoyed.

All that talk about South Africa not being able to handle the pressure was wrong (this time).

What a cracker.

Nightwatchgirl is glad that Test cricket in the southern hemisphere is alive and well.

Are you seriously asking Ricky Ponting to be a good sport? After everything he's said this year? Maybe when they've won 40 matches in a row and lose the next one he'll consider being gracious, but thats never gonna happen, is it?

NWG was hoping, what with christmas cheer and all, and bearing in mind that Ricky gets his full quota of vitamin d, that he could at least pretend that South Africa had played bloody well to win.

NWG just hoped for too much. She accepts her mistake and would very much like to move on if possible.

South Africa didn't play well to win. They played like we would have played in their situation.

The reason they won was because our bowlers (some of them) were unbelieveably ineffective and below average. So South Africa shouldn't feel proud and pat themselves on the back, they actually didn't do anything really special. Their win was due to some players in ur team not doing what they were paid to do.

Been away all weekend, came home to find the great news. My shout of "YES!! F[ahem] YES!!!" shook the street".

I hope we're seeing the start of the Australian machine realising that now they haven't got the genius of Shane Warne et al around, they're not as good as they would like to think.

Good start to a hopefully spicy series :-)

Now, what's been going on in India...?

It feels like the end of world war... wonder why everybody loves to see aussies lose ... ashes should be fun since poms are showing more resolve in india than australia did ... anyone else thinks ponting resembles bush in more than one ways?
