Shock

England actually won. They could even be described as good.

Fun fact of the day (and also surprising - don't say NWG doesn't deliver on content):

KP is actually the third highest scoring batsmen in International Twenty20. This is quite surprising as NWG doesn't really remember him scoring that many runs.

But there you go. Let's just hope that KP's wife doesn't go in to labour in the next week.

NWG, let the optimism flow. I sense a semi-final here - we'll beat New Zealand and lose against South Africa but sneak through.

The Nightwatchgirl said...

That is really optimistic GCW. She's going to watch the NZvSA game now and decide who will beat England with the biggest margin.

Stani Army said...

Mare, did you go labour today?

GCW,
I think Mare is right to be pessimistic. The other teams won't drop catches like that or miss easy run outs. England need to be careful about today's result.

Jamsheed Raza said...

Actually Pakistan helped themselves to lose this match. Com'on how can a team drop 5 catches in a match ...

The Nightwatchgirl said...

Jamsheed - this is true. Pakistan did themselves no favours on the catching front.

Stani - NWG is above all this voting malarky, unless it involves voting for who is the greatest cricketer of all time.

Stani Army said...

Hmmm, the illusion of choice init Mare.

Wasim Akram, by the way?

Good Cricket Wicket said...

I'm still confident. We always get mashed by South Africa, who are still fighting the Boer War, but we usually go ok against NZ.

And yes, Wasim Akram should be the new PM.

The Nightwatchgirl said...

No Stani, no Wasim Akram.

Stani Army said...

So Wasim is not the greatest cricketer of all time Mare?

Who is it then...for you...besides me that is?

Don't you think Lumb looks like Strauss?

GCW,
England can counter the Soufricans by using their own Soufricans!

MWilson said...

I think Lumb can't be termed as South African. His father played for England,he said he supported England while growing up.

Only natural for him to play for England.

The Nightwatchgirl said...

MWilson - Yes. NWG totally agrees with you. Lumb is basically English but with a South African mentality, which is perfect when facing a bunch of South Africans who are frighteningly arrogant (and good, damn them).

Stani - no he is not the greatest cricketer of all time. That belongs to one man. And he's English.

And yes, South Africans v South Africans basically cancel each other out, leaving just Englishmen fighting it out. Hurrah.

Good Cricket Wicket said...

NWG - Hmmm, English...I'm gonna guess Mike Yardy

Let's not confuse the poor imitation that is South Africa B with the English Empire XI.

If you think about it, they're all English. (No death threats please)

The Nightwatchgirl said...

GCW - there will be no death threats on NWG. This is a place for freedom of expression, to be at one with cricket opinions, where everyone can be free and joyful and can run in a field of poppies, where puppies and kittens play happily together and Andrew Symonds can have as many drinks as he likes.

But if you or anyone says Mike Yardy, Wasim Akram or any other cricketer except Matthew Hoggard, NWG will get angry.

He is clearly the greatest cricketer in the world. Ever.

Dear Ms NWG,
At the risk of spouting heresy, I actually enjoy listening when the Australian team play, simply because they play like a team and not 11 individuals.
As the old saying goes I support England and anyone who beats South Africa.
I actually think SA are easier to beat than NZ. SA are the schoolyard bullies. GIve them a bloody nose and they run home to their mums crying.

Douglas

Australians are also actually English. But naughtier.

mcspud1947 said...

Good Cricket Wicket,
Now I'm even more confused. If the Australians are actually English, then are their players South African's in disguise as well?.
douglas

and I thought the Daleks were out to rule the world....

The Nightwatchgirl said...

It's only really England that are made up of players from different countries. This is because they are not good enough to play for their own country.

Oh wait, what's that? Dirk Nannes? The player for the Netherlands. He plays for Australia? Good lord, NWG is shocked.

Stani Army said...

...Hoggy says it's Wasim Akram Mare. What now?

The Nightwatchgirl said...

Stani - NWG is in shock at your blatant awfulness at putting words in to Matthew's mouth. He is clearly the greatest cricketer of all time.

End of discussion.

NWG is quite happy though to concede that Wasim Akram is the greatest Pakistani cricketer of all time.

Fair?

Dear Ms NWG,
The World 20/20 Championship swill be without the assistance of Messrs Duckworth and Lewis for the next few days as they have been seconded to determine a winner in your recent Parliamentary elcetions.

The Nightwatchgirl said...

Douglas, that would be a brilliant idea. Especially with all the rain around last night, there could have been a completely different result.

What NWG wants to know is did the England players get their postal votes in in time?

Stani Army said...

Mare,
You should commend me for being able to put words into a mouth so full of food. Ok, I'll let you in on a secret, I disguised my words as carrot cake.

I think we may differ on our definition of a cricketer Mare.
